White bought the Aspire One Netbook (8.9 ???? 1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 512MB RAM 8 GB hard drive) on 8 September to be used only when traveling – so you’ve probably used a total of 120 hours or so for the past 18 months. I liked it – it’s easy and fast shoes although I know nothing about Linux I was happy with him. However several weeks before using it and found that the first battery was completely dead. Well it’s ok I can buy another battery. But I also have a / Sun Starburst bar form (new position) that prevents me connecting wired and wireless. I googled and found other users with similar problem without a solution. After extensive research I finally Acer contacted via e-mail about this issue the answer is returned warranty has expired and you try to restore the system to original factory settings or contact your evil (paying) for help. I have not received the recovery disc with the original purchase (product shipped from Amazon not third parties) so I think Acer just trying to make you pay more. Since I had great care of your computer and have just gentlely is dubious transactions

Better than expected

I bought this computer primarily to use at school for taking notes and writing papers, but I have been using it for pretty much everything since I got it. It’s faster than I expected (faster than my expensive Piece of C*** HP tablet), but then one of the first things I did when I bought this computer was delete all the unnecessary bloatware. It’s light enough that when I drop it in my backpack I don’t really notice it, and the battery lasts a good 5 hours, sometimes more, which is astonishing since it’s adveritised as good for 2.5. The keyboard was a little strange at first, but now that I’m used to it, my typing has become much faster and more accurate on it’s smaller keys. I bought the copper brown, which is a nice, understated but interesting brown (it’s almost the color of cola, or coffee with a sheen). My only real complaint is that the speakers are underneath the front bottom edge of the computer, so if you are using it as a laptop the sound is muffled. Oh, and also the screen has a fairly large plastic border… I’m sure there’s some mechanical reason for that, but other computers this size have smaller borders with larger screens, and thus are the same total size. I mean, I bought the 8.9 because I wanted a smaller computer, not a smaller screen.

All in all this is a great little computer. Fits perfectly on those tiny college desks with room to spare, hasn’t crashed once in the month I’ve had it, and it’s faster by virtue of XP rather than Vista (I imagine it’ll be even faster once I dump XP entirely and load up Linux). Another interesting note, I was sitting near a girl with a new Eee PC a couple days ago, and we started up at the same time. By the time hers was loaded and ready, I was already knee deep in note-taking and had three other programs open and running. Why, why Acer, did you have to discontinue this terrific little laptop?? Even my SO, who’s a bloodthirsty Mac user, likes this computer.

Still Reliable After 15 Months of Daily Use

Awesome little workhorse of a netbook and still going strong after 15 months of daily use. The light weight and small size is great for taking it everywhere I go. When I need more display room for my work, it’s a snap to connect the Aspire One to a large size monitor using the VGA port. Quiet fan and cool running, long lasting battery. Keep the temp files and reg clean and it will continue to run as fast as the first day it booted up. The price has dropped and I’ll be buying more Aspire Ones for my home network.

One of the best LAPTOPs I’ve ever had.

The manufacturers keep whining that people don’t understand they’re not supposed to think of a netbook as a laptop, but my Acer Aspire One has been the best compact laptop I’ve ever had, much more powerful than my 00 Sony SR-77 which it effectively replaced for under 0.

I use it as a bedside computer and as my laptop when traveling, and it runs everything I need to (including games like World of Warcraft), has more disk space than I can fill, and if it gets stolen or dropped or something then it’s incredibly cheap to replace so it takes much of the stress out of traveling with an expensive computer.

I’ve had mine for a year and have had no problems with it whatsoever.

Will have no hesitation to get another Acer Aspire the next time I need a small portable computer.

Instead of another Pocket PC, I got a Netbook

After my Pocket PC couldn’t be taken off of life support (aka the battery wouldn’t take a charge anymore, and I couldn’t find a replacement battery for it again.) I decided to get a Netbook instead. All the functions of a Pocket PC with a boat load more. Easy to set up, simple to use, and so lightweight, it fits into my shoulder bag, and small leather back pack. With a mobile wireless it becomes a great portable way to stay connected.

With the SD and expansion slots, it has become my mobile photo lab. Take photographs, review, edit, adjust and upload without having to wait until you come home.

Can play DVD quality AVI files. The screen is a bit reflective out of doors, but a protective screen cover (something I heartily recommend getting) will cut that problem down.

Took a while to get accustomed to the smaller keyboard layout, but that was not a big problem.

My only issue with this was you have to take it into a computer shop to have the memory maxed out. The design for expanding the memory wasn’t well planned out, and an access panel should have been designed into the underside of the netbook.

I also recommend getting the 6 or 9 cell battery to make it well and truly a ‘daily use’ portable, as one of the many complaints of notebook and netbook users is 3 hr battery life.

Use Google Chrome and this machine works great

I have had this for a month now. The keyboard is comfortable and sufficiently big for me (I do have small hands). I have been using touch pad instead of a mouth for years, so I am used to a touch pad.

At the beginning I used Internet Explorer to go online and found it is a bit slow to load. Worse, it freezes at my gmail all the time (unless I switch to html view). However, my friend mentioned to me about Google Chrome and as soon as I switch to that, all becomes fine now and all the webpage loads fast.

I use it when going on trips or in a cafe. I am starting to love it!

Excellent Purchase

Ok so it’s been a week since I’ve had the Acer Aspire 150. Must say, I’m quite impressed. Certainly it’s not infallable, but it has easily found its place. Now I should start by stating the obvious: this is a netbook, not to be confused with a laptop, or in other words it is not a desktop replacement by any means. For those that are looking to use a laptop as their main computer, do not make it a netbook. If you are planning on using this for nothing more than surfing the internet, and other minor tasks such as word processing or playing music, then look no further. The Acer Aspire combines functionality with an affordable price, perfect for the budget minded. Now on to the specs…

Overall, the netbook package is nice, fairly slim (although I’ve seen slimmer). This is a point that will be up to personal preference, as many will complaign about the keys being too close together, or the touchpad being too small; however, my personal observation is that the keys are not significantly smaller, and mine came with a mini-mouse, easily fixing the touchpad problem. The speed is quite average amongst most netbooks with comparable specs. The wireless works quite well; at first I was dropping connection every minute or so, but after visiting the Acer website and updating the driver, it worked fine. The built-in webcam is a nice touch, works great with skype, and the quality isn’t too shabby (obviously not HD quality or anything of the like, but overall quite smooth, better than most I’ve used). The built-in speakers are ok for the size, but headphones would be much better. Battery life is quite good, mine averages 4 hours with use. Start up is quite fast; takes me about 20 seconds to load (without an anti-virus currently installed; I’m sure that will easily slow down performance). Much software had to be removed out the of box (McAfee, 3rd party software, etc), but it was nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be, about 20 minutes of uninstalls, no messing with the registry or the like. XP runs smooth, have yet to try Windows 7, although I’m told it runs fairly well. Office 2007 runs smooth, Word, Excel, OneNote, and all.

It includes 3 USB ports, which fit items fairly snug, but no problems (would have been nice to have a firewire port). The included VGA out is almost vital. The screen has good quality, a little small for thos who are used to larger fonts, but for me works nice.
So, all in all, for the price, this item is well worth it. The hardware seems sturdy overall, the size and weight make this ultra-portable, and once again the price just makes it a great purchase.

All it is said to be

I bought this for my wife because she wanted a ‘laptop’ that she could use on her lap without disturbing her pug. [yeah, the dog]

I was looking for something small, light, simple, and with a decent battery life. The first 2 laptops we’ve had to be tethered to an outlet every hour or so.

This little Acer is everything it is cracked up to be. It really is, for everything my wife does on and off line, as fast as our bigger laptops. The battery, even after a couple months of use, *does* last 5 hours. It is light as a feather especially compared to our Dell & HPs with the wide screens.

I thought the size of the screen might bother us as my wife and I are both in our 60s and wear reading glasses. Not so- the screen size wasn’t an issue. I used it daily for a week and never noticed the size of the screen.

The wi-fi hooked up in seconds to the internet and in minutes to my home lan.

The only possible negative to using this as our only laptop is the lack of
a cd/dvd. That’s easily solved with a USB player- and then you don’t need to lug around, or power up one on the computer.

Great little machine.
